Beyond The Break with Angela Horacek and Mamala Surf - Nicole Grodesky

In this interview, filmmaker and surf journalist Nicole Grodesky sits down with our founder, Angela Horacek, to talk about what led her to rethink women’s wetsuits. What began as a quiet frustration with available surfing wetsuit options became a deeper intention to create wetsuits designed specifically to enhance women’s cold water experience.

Angela shares what she noticed was missing in the industry and why comfort and performance should never feel like a tradeoff. She also opens up about the process of building Mamala from the ground up, including the challenges, the learning curve and the care that goes into every detail.

The film features Chloe Coleman, Deana Dhillon, Cash Hoover, Jen Smith, and Summer Romero, with cinematography by Jersson Barboza, Emma Fresco, Beth O’Rourke and Scott Smith, bringing Angela’s vision into focus through thoughtful storytelling and time spent in the ocean.
